Numbers up to the Millions

As you work with numbers greater than 100, they are grouped in 3s. Commas
separate these groups. Each group has 3 places. From right to left, they are
ones, tens, and hundreds. These groups of 3 are called periods. The first
group on the right is the ones period. The next group is the thousands. The
third group is the millions (Table 1.1).
Table 1.1 This number, 45,792, reads forty five thousand, seven hundred ninety two. There are 4 sets of 10,000, five sets of 1,000, 7 sets of 100, 9 sets of 10, and 2 sets of ones. 912,537,081 reads nine hundred twelve million, five hundred thirty seven thousand, eighty one. Read the numbers to the first comma. Say the name of the period. Read the numbers to the next period and say the name of the period. Continue until you have read the numbers of the ones period. You do not need you to say the period name. Do not use the word and. The place of each digit (number) determines its value.
