Lesson Preview

In this lesson the focus is less towards narrative writing and more on expository compositions. Specifically, students are expected to write essays between 500 to 700 words in these categories: interpretations of literature, research reports, persuasive compositions and technical documents. 

Along with their writing, students are expected to have a command of English-language conventions and apply those skills (e.g., sentence structure, grammar, punctuation and spelling). For students who have not mastered these skills, review previous lessons in those areas.

Objectives

After studying this lesson, students will be able to:

• write fictional or autobiographical narratives developing a plot, point of view, characters and setting
   
• write responses to literature exhibiting careful reading, understanding and insight
   
• write research reports posing relevant questions about the topic and including evidence obtained through the formal research process
   
• write persuasive compositions which state clear positions in support of a proposition or proposal
   
• write documents related to career development including simple business letters and job applications
   
• write technical documents identifying the sequence of activities needed to design a system, operate a tool, or explain bylaws of an organization.
