If you know where to look, you can see the influence of the civilization of Rome all around you. Art, architecture, literature, sports, and even our system of law find many of their roots in Ancient Rome. The rise and fall of the Roman Empire has affected countless nations and much of the world’s history from its time until today.
In this lesson you will learn about this empire that once ruled much of the world. You will discover both its strengths and the weaknesses that led to its eventual downfall.
When you have completed this lesson, you will be able to
study the early strengths and lasting contributions of Rome,
discuss the geographic borders of the empire at its height and the factors that threatened it, and
describe the establishment of Constantinople and the development of the Byzantine Empire.
