Lesson Preview

All materials are made out of properties. These properties can be observed, measured and predicted. In this lesson students begin to recognize that objects can be described in terms of the materials they are made of. They also are learning about materials that can change from one form to another.

Objectives

After studying this lesson, students will be able to

• describe the physical properties of matter
   

• recognize solids, liquids, and gases have different properties
   

• know that properties of substances can change when mixed, cooled, or heated
   

• know all matter is made of small particles called atoms
   

• know that there are more than 100 different types of atoms, which make up the periodic table of elements.
