Each state in the United States has an
interesting history. The story of California is one of the most colorful and
exciting of all.
California is made up of mountains, valleys, deserts, hills, forests, and a long
coastline. To the early settlers, it had a lot to offer.
In this lesson we will look at the land that makes up California. We will learn
where California is on Earth. We will also see how the lands and waters of
California drew people to settle there.
When you have completed this lesson, you will be able to
use latitude and longitude to show where California is on Earth,
show where the North and South Poles are, and show where the equator is,
name the capital of California,
describe the different regions of California, and
use maps, charts, and pictures to describe how communities in California are different from each other.
