Thousands of years before Columbus discovered
North America, many groups of people lived on the continent. If you were to
travel back in time, you would find cliff dwellers in the desert Southwest. You
would also find nomads in the Great Plains and woodland peoples in the East.
These people and others found ways to survive and enjoy life using the natural
resources around them.
In this lesson, you will learn about the many groups of people that lived
in North America. You will find out about how they lived in their natural
environments. You will learn about some of their folklore traditions and
customs. You will also find out about their economies and types of government.
When you have completed this lesson, you will be able to
describe how geography and climate
affected various groups of people in North America, including how they built
their homes, collected food, and made clothing and tools,
describe various cultures and
folklore traditions of Native American people, and
explain the economies and
governments of Native American cultures.
