Lesson Preview
As long as people have lived in groups, there have been rules and laws. You have rules in school. You have rules at your house. Our government makes rules called laws.
Why are laws important? Laws can keep people
safe. Laws can help keep order. Laws can make sure people treat each other
fairly.
In this lesson we will look at rules and laws. We will see why they are
important. We will look at laws of long ago and see how laws today are
different.
When you have completed this lesson, you will be able to
understand why it is important to treat other people as we want to be treated,
describe ways some rules today are different from rules long ago,
discuss why laws are made, and
explain how the United States and other countries make laws .
