Lesson Preview

At this stage, children are making sense of the alphabet and its role in reading. Familiarity with the letters and their sounds is a good predictor of early reading success. Children should be exposed to a range of print forms and functions and to recognize that this carries meaning.

Learning that letters, words and sounds work together is the first step to reading.

Objectives

After studying this lesson, students will be able to:

• Identify Book Parts
• Distinguish Letters from Words
• Recognize and Name Upper and Lower Case Letters
• Match Oral Words to Printed Words
• Identify Letters, Words, and Sentences
