Lesson Preview

It's very difficult to work with thousands of records. Mathematicians have worked out some ways to simplify this problem. Instead of working with huge masses of data, collected in the last century scientists use samples. There are different ways to sample a database and several tests that must be performed before the sampled data can be used.

This lesson will introduce you to the basic methods you need to know to perform experiments not only in your Math class but in your Science classes, too.

Objectives

After studying this lesson, you will know how to

• sample databases,
    
• compare samples,
   
•  analyze displayed data, and
   
• examine claims.
