Do the following constructions:

  1. Construct and label . Construct the perpendicular bisector of .
     
  2. Construct and label . Construct the perpendicular bisector of  .
     
  3. Construct and label . Construct perpendicular bisectors to divide into four congruent parts.
     
  4. Construct and label . Construct perpendicular bisectors to divide into eight congruent parts.
     
  5. Using the segments below, construct  with length equal to the average length of a and b.

  3. Bisect twice. The first perpendicular bisector divides the segment into two equal parts. The next perpendicular bisectors will break each of those segments into two parts for a total of four.
     
  4. Follow the instructions for problem 3. Then bisect the four segments. The third set of bisectors will create eight equal segments.
     
  5. Average: sum of the two lengths divided by two. Construct a segment of length a + b. Bisect the segment to get the average length.
