Long Vowels
Long vowel sounds are made by a combination of two vowels. Long vowels “say their names” – a,e,i, o, u. There are two basic patterns for long vowel sounds:
- An e on the end of a word can make the other vowel in the word long. Vowels a, i, o, and u use this pattern.
- When two vowels are together, the first one is long, and the other one is silent.
