Reaction rates depend upon two things:
- Chemical factors (reactant and product characteristics)
- Physical factors (collision theory)
Chemical Factors
Chemical factors that change reaction rates fall into two categories:
- The individual characteristics of reactants and/or products, such as strengths of chemical bonds
- Conditions under which the reaction takes place, or physical factors
