Second Law of Thermodynamics

Why do hot pots and pans cool down when taken off the stove? Why does air rush out of a punctured tire? Why will an ice cube melt if left on a kitchen counter?

Think about how, in each situation, energy of some kind is changing from being localized (in the shape of an ice cube) to becoming more spread out (liquid melted on the counter).
