Heat Flow and Molecule (Atomic) Motion

Heat energy and temperature are not the same thing.

Heat energy is an extensive property of a substance, which means that it changes with a change in the amount of substance.

Temperature is an intensive property, which means that it doesn't change with a change in the amount of substance.

Heat energy has SI units of Joules (J), and temperature has SI units of Kelvin (K).

Heat energy and temperature are related, however, in that temperature is the property that determines the direction in which heat energy flows.
