Cause and Effect Organization of Text

In our last lesson, you learned about the compare/contrast format in informational writing. This lesson is about cause and effect. A great deal of informational material is written in the cause and effect format, and you will probably be asked to write essays in it too. Cause and effect gives you reasons and explanations for things. It tries to answer the questions we all have about the world around us.

Analyzing cause and effect requires you to make connections and to analyze those connections. To properly understand how cause and effect works, you must start with something that needs explaining.
