Rate of Reaction

You may know that reactants come together to form bonds, which create products, but is that all you need to know in order to say that the reaction will go forward?

Consider the case where reactants produce only miniscule amounts of product at first, and the reaction does not go to completion until a month later. At this rate, will the reaction still work for you? This is information you probably wished you had known before you began the experiment!

In addition to the identity of reactants and products, another important piece of information about a reaction is its speed, or reaction rate.
