Settlers Come to America

Today, there are many cities and highways in America. But long ago, people lived here with no cities. Indians lived here for thousands of years. They used the land around them to find clothes, homes, and food. They traded with each other to get other things they needed.

In 1492, Christopher Columbus found America. Many other explorers came after that. They found other parts of America. Soon, people from Europe began moving to this country. They packed tools, clothes, and food. They rode on ships. It took months to get to America. But when they got here, they knew they would have a new life.

The people that moved here were called settlers. This is because they settled here. This was their new home.
